How to Fish in Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact 2.1 introduces fishing, a brand new activity to keep us Travelers busy in Teyvat. There’s a fish outbreak in Teyvat, and the Mondstadt Fishing Association needs your help. If you’re first getting started, you are probably wondering how to fish in Genshin Impact. We’ll walk you through all the steps, including where to find the quest to start fishing, how to fish, different bait types, and a little bit about Ornamental Fish.

To learn how to fish in Genshin Impact, you’ll need to start in Mondstadt and complete a specific World Quest. Kathryne will give you all the information you need to start on your way to becoming a master angler.

Where to learn fishing in Genshin Impact

The first step to unlocking fishing in Genshin Impact is by speaking with Kathryne at Mondstadt. She will send you to talk to Nantuck, the Mondstadt Angler. He is a senior fisherman of the Mondstadt Fishing Association. Nantuck will teach you all the basics about fishing over at Cider Lake. You will also receive a fishing rod and some bait after finishing the short fishing tutorial.

How to fish in Genshin Impact

1. Find and interact with a Fishing Point
2. Attach the proper bait to catch a fish
3. Hold and release the attack button to cast your line
4. When the fish bites, hold the button again to reel it in
5. Keep the meter inside the yellow tension zone

To fish in Genshin Impact, look for ripples in bodies of water. That means it is a Fishing Point, and you can interact with it to begin fishing. Walk over to a fishing point and press your interact key to enter fishing mode. Select your Fishing Rod and Bait, and hold your attack button to cast the line. Let go at the desired location to cast your line. Try to aim for where the fish is swimming to increase your odds of catching it. Not too close, though, or it will get scared and swim away. 

When you hook a fish, press the Raise Hook button in a timely manner. The fish will start struggling, and you can hold and release the Fish button to reel it in. Try and keep it in the yellow tension zone, or the fish might escape from you. The fish can also sometimes start struggling intensely, and the tension zone will move around more rapidly.

Different Fishing Points can contain various species of fish. You’ll need some bait to catch fish, and you can get bait blueprints from the Mondstadt Fishing Association. You can then craft the bait over at any crafting bench. Certain baits will attract different kinds of fish. 

Be on the lookout for Ornamental Fish, which will have more obvious ripple effects at different Fishing Points around Teyvat. They are a rarer and more valuable species of fish. You can raise Ornamental Fish in a Pool of Sapphire Grace inside your Serenitea Pot, which you can get the blueprint for at the Fishing Association in Liyue.

What types of Fishing Bait is there in Genshin Impact

There are many types of Fishing Bait in Genshin Impact, including:

• Fruit Paste Bait – Use this bait to catch Medakas, Dawncatchers, and Crystalfish
• Redrot Bait – Use this bait to catch Sticklebacks, Bettas, Venomspine Fish, Akai Maou, and Snowstriders
• False Worm Bait – Use this bait to catch Shirakodai and Angelfish
• Fake Fly Bait – Use this bait to catch Koi and Pufferfish

You can purchase more bait blueprints from the Fishing Associations throughout the various regions in Teyvat. Each one requires a number of fish in exchange. Look for the fish icon on your map to find the Fishing Association.
