How to Claim and Upgrade the Wind Staff on Origins in Zombies Chronicles

The wind staff is one of four buildable elemental staffs in Origins. It shoots out blasts of wind that can instantly kill zombies at point-blank range and knock them back a great distance, similar to the Thundergun. It can also be upgraded to the Boreas’ Fury, which has a greater range of fire and a wider area of effect. Plus, players can charge it up to send a blast of wind that expands rapidly to form a deadly tornado. The upgraded version also features a lethal melee attack as well as a secondary attachment called Sekhmet’s Vigor. Which allows you to flip the staff and use the bottom end to revive downed players.

To get the wind staff, you will need to uncover three parts of the staff, the elemental crystal, the gramophone, and the correct records to access the Crazy Place as well as the lower levels of the Excavation Site. Here are the locations for each;

  • The three parts of the wind staff can be found in the Giant Robot’s heads with each of the three robots holding one. To get inside of the robot’s head, you will need to shoot the foot with glowing lights under it and then get stepped on by it. Keep in mind that only one of the feet is lit up each time a robot makes a pass and it’s randomized every time.
  • The yellow record can be found near Generator 5, it will spawn on the partially broken wall to the right of Stamin-Up. It could also spawn on the boxes near the entrance to the Lightning tunnel or in the tunnel on the table near the entrance. While the gramophone will always spawn on the floor inside of the Excavation Site and the record to access the lower levels will be outside of the Excavation Site.
  • The elemental gem can be found inside the Crazy Place but you’ll need the yellow record and the gramophone to access it. The entrance to the Wind tunnel is near Generator 4. Once inside, there will be a pedestal that will open up with a yellow glow and the elemental gem inside.

Once you’ve collected all of the parts for the wind staff, you can then build it on the lowest level of the Excavation Site, on the yellow pedestal. Once built, it can be picked up by any player and upgraded to improve performance. The wind staff upgrade (Boreas’ Fury) can be built if you;

  1. Solve the riddle located in the Wind part of the Crazy Place. Above the portal, there are four concentric rings with four symbols evenly spread on them. The goal is to match up each of the symbols with the rings above the pillar that the symbols are pointing to. This can be done by shooting each ring with the wind staff in order to rotate it. The symbols are base four representations of numbers, with the number of lines in each shape indicating the value for each power of four. The symbols on the pillars represent the total to which each row of symbols in the rings must add up. Once the rings are correctly placed, the inner rings will rotate up and an audio cue will play.
  2. After you’ve solved the riddle, there will be another in the original realm. There are three smoking stone balls next to the tank’s returning pathway around the dig site located at Generator 4. The player must shoot these balls with the wind staff to direct the smoke toward the Excavation Site. Afterward, another audio cue will sound and a beam of light will shoot up from the Excavation Site.
  3. Next, you will have to order the floating rings inside of the lower levels of the Excavation Site so that the lights on the four rings turn yellow. The rings can be rotated by pulling the levers located around lower levels. Once all of the rings are yellow, the yellow orb inside must be shot with the staff. At which point it will glow yellow and shoot up into the air.
  4. Finally, you will need to place the wind staff inside of the yellow pedestal in the Crazy Place and kill around 20 zombies to collect their souls into the staff. Once this is done, Samantha may talk to you about the “power of wind being available”, and the staff icon on the HUD should now have a red outline. This indicates that the Boreas’ Fury can now be picked up from the pedestal.
