In order to win, players must acquire resources, develop their empires, and eliminate their rivals. The game features multiplayer modes that let players compete with one another as well as single-player adventures based on historical occasions and civilizations. It is considered a classic in the genre of RTS (Real-Time Strategy), alongside games such as Big Huge’s Rise of Nations and others.

The intricate degree of planning needed to succeed in Age of Empires II is one of its essential elements. Players must strategically choose whether to attack their rivals and when to protect their own territory, manage their resources correctly, and develop a powerful army. One of these resources that must be taken into account are Relics, which can be used to speed up your progress, produce Gold for your country and boost your economy in the game. In this guide we explain how to capture/recapture Relics in the game.

To capture Relics in Age of Empires 2, players will need Monks in their nation. They are essential to capturing Relics, as they can carry Relics and deposit them in monasteries for your benefit. There are always five Relics in each game (without any expansion packs or mods), and Relics are very critical to gather as soon as you reach the Castle Age technology level.

To capture Relics, send Monks to carry them back to one of your monasteries. This will give you the bonuses of the Relic, and you can also steal Relics from your enemies by destroying their monasteries. Make sure to defend your own well, though, as they will become targets as the game progresses. The value of a Relic increases as your campaign moves into the late-game stage.
