How to Advance Ages in Age of Empires 2

Advancing through the four ages in Age of Empires 2 is not only a great mechanic, but it is a necessary one if you want to beat your enemy. Basically, it will unlock new units, new technologies, new buildings, and overall give a boost to your civilization. So basically, advancing through the ages is a must-do. There are four ages in Age of Empires 2: Dark Age, Feudal Age, Castle Age, and Imperial Age.

In order to advance through the ages, there are two prerequisites you must check. First, you must build two age-specific buildings. That means, for example, if you wish to advance from the Feudal Age to the Castle Age, you would want to build a Blacksmith and an Archery Range. Second, you must collect the necesarry resources in order to advance through the ages. They are costly, but they are well worth it. Advancing to the Feudal age costs 500 food. Going from the Feudal Age to the Castle Age will cost you 800 food and 200 gold. Finally, advancing to the Imperial Age will set you back a whopping 1000 food and 800 gold.

These requirements may vary from civilization to civilization. For example, the Khmer will not require any buildings to advance through the ages and the Begnalis will spawn 2 villages when reaching a new age. Those are a couple of examples of age-advancing bonuses from all the available ones. However, in most cases, be sure to follow the above guide to advance all the way to the Imperial Age. Good luck!
