Just like in Breath of the Wild, players can get their own house in Tears of the Kingdom. Players can also choose to decorate their house with an optional Garden Pond that can be placed outside of the home. Ponds just aren’t the same without fish to fill them with, however; keep reading to find out how you can add fish to your Garden Pond in Tears of the Kingdom!

How to Add Fish to the Garden Pond in Tears of the Kingdom

The Garden Pond is an optional add-on to Link’s house in Tears of the Kingdom. It’s not a requirement to have, but it does make Link’s home a lot more welcoming. The only thing that could possibly make it look better would be the addition of fish, though that feat is a lot more difficult to accomplish than you’d think.

Once you’ve got the Garden Pond built in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll notice that it has a single Sanke Carp swimming around in it. The carp will never despawn, but it’ll be the only fish you’ll ever be able to keep in the Garden Pond, because there is currently no way to add additional fish to the Garden Pond in Tears of the Kingdom.

You can always try catching fish from local bodies of water to add to your pond, but all you’ll be doing is filling your pond up with fish corpses; fish die automatically once they’re caught in this game, so unfortunately, you can’t have your own personal aquarium in Tears of the Kingdom.

The only other way to add fish to your Garden Pond is by using the Mipha amiibo from Breath of the Wild. If you scan the Mipha amiino into your game while standing over your pond, dozens of fish will spawn and flop into the water. These fish will despawn in a matter of moments, but it’s currently the only “legit” way to get more fish into your Garden Pond in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Build a Garden Pond in Tears of the Kingdom

In order to do anything with the Garden Pond in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll first need to build it. The Garden Pond is an optional add-on to Link’s house, which, of course, will need to be built prior to building the Garden Pond.

Once you’ve got your house, all you need to do is pay for the Garden Pond to be built, no hard work required! You simply have to find and talk to Granteson and ask him to make you a Garden Pond. Granteson charges 300 Rupees to put it in, which honestly isn’t that terrible of a price, all things considered.

Once Granteson is finished building the Garden Pond, you should automatically be able to visit it in your house. The pond should have a single Sanke Carp swimming around in it, which will consistently respawn, no matter what happens to it. (if you’re a total monster, you can use it as an infinite, unethical food source).

Although you’re currently unable to give the Sanke Carp permanent friends to swim around with, you should always try to keep your eyes peeled for future updates that may remedy this issue!

The Garden Pond is easily one of the most underrated features in Tears of the Kingdom. Even though you’re unable to add loads of fish to it, it’s still a very cool thing to come home to after a long day of adventuring.
