When does Grand Theft Auto 6 Release?

Grand Theft Auto games have become such an iron-clad staple of the mainstream gaming scene, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the release of each new one could be considered a milestone in the industry. Or at the very least, they’re the only thing anyone cares about for a good few months after the release. Thanks to the success of Grand Theft Auto 5, the hype is already off the charts for a sequel. So, when does Grand Theft Auto 6 release?

Rockstar has not yet offered any kind of concrete release date for a sixth mainline Grand Theft Auto. However, what we lack in concrete dates and facts, we can make up with in rumors and speculation! According to the most prominent rumors available at the time of writing, the consensus seems to be that Grand Theft Auto 6 is definitely in development over at Rockstar. Of course, when I say “development,” I mean more like “conceptualization.” Grand Theft Auto 6 is definitely happening, but it may be a few years before we see hide or hair of it.

When does Grand Theft Auto 6 Release?

Well-known video game leaker Tom Henderson recently released a video detailing the information he had gathered from the dark annals of Rockstar regarding Grand Theft Auto 6. Based on what Henderson has heard, the game could release sometime in either 2024 and 2025. I know what you’re thinking: “holy cats, that’s a long time.” Apparently, the reason for the lengthy developmental period is a reduction of resources inflicted upon Rockstar due to uncovered controversies regarding the intense, crunch-heavy development of Red Dead Redemption 2. Resources are being redirected toward reorganization and revamping the workspace.

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier penned a tweet the other day corroborating Henderson’s information, saying “Everything Tom Henderson has said about the game matches up with what I’ve heard.” Schreier was previously of the opinion that we could see Grand Theft Auto 6 as soon as 2023, but hangups caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the aforementioned crunch controversies, put a damper on that.

On the bright side, even if development takes nearly half a decade, the game is rumored to have an absolutely gigantic map that changes and evolves over the course of the story.
