Who is Tohma in Genshin Impact?

As some Genshin Impact fans may already know, there was an image floating around with leaked characters on it awhile ago. This image is how some people found out about upcoming characters like Kazuha and Ayaka. The validity of these leaks grows as more of these characters are added to the game. While Kazuha’s banner grows closer, Genshin fans turn their gaze to a new character: Tohma.

About Tohma in Genshin impact

Compared to previous leaks, there is unfortunately very little information to gather about Tohma. That said, many have speculated that Tohma (also spelled Tohama or Touma depending on the leak) has direct ties to the highly-anticipated character Ayaka. Thanks to dataminers and the r/AyakaMains subreddit, several of Ayaka’s voice lines have been leaked (two of which include Tohma’s name). You can find all the voicelines here.

Tohma may be Ayaka’s guard or caretaker, or is at least close to Ayaka in some way, according to these voicelines. In the first voiceline, Ayaka asks Tohma to fetch her umbrella for her. In the second, she makes a remark about Tohma eating a Matcha Cake and spitting it out because of the bitter taste. With such little information, it’s hard to say with certainty what the relationship between these two characters is. 

Some have even gone so far as to say the two may be in a loving relationship, however the voice lines don’t indicate this in any way. 

What is Tohma’s Element and Weapon Type?

Not much is known about this character, but one thing the leaks all have in common is that he wields a Polearm weapon and a Pyro Vision. Many players seem to believe that Tohma will not be a 5-Star character, and is instead a cheap 4-Star version of Hu Tao. This is just speculation, however, so don’t count Tohma out of the 5-Star race just yet. Regardless, if you didn’t get Hu Tao and/or want a replacement for her, keep your eyes out for more news regarding Tohma.

When is Tohma’s Release Date?

Unfortunately, this is another piece of information we don’t have yet. Our best guess is that Tohma will be released at some point after Version 1.6 (probably during or after Version 1.7).  Tohma is supposedly from Inazuma, meaning we will most likely have to wait until the new area of Teyvat has been released in order to get this character.
