How to get Spirit in Diablo 2 Resurrected

You will need these five items to make a Spirit in Diablo 2 Resurrected:

  • Base Sword or Shield with four open sockets
  • Tal Rune
  • Thul Rune
  • Ort Rune
  • Amn Rune

Place the Tal Rune, Thul Rune, Ort Rune, and Amn Rune into a common (white) Sword or Shield with four open sockets in that order. You can create a Spirit in the following items:

  • Crystal Sword
  • Broad Sword
  • Long Sword
  • Monarch
  • Ward
  • Aegis
  • Paladin Shields

You can get the Tal Rune from doing Normal Countess runs and completing the Act V quest to kill Shenk the Overseer, and the latter will also get you an Ort Rune. You can also get the Thul and Amn Rune from The Countess on Nightmare or Hell Difficulty.

How to get a sword or shield to make Spirit in Diablo 2 Resurrected

There are many ways to farm a sword or shield to make a Spirit. The easiest method is to acquire one early in the game and utilize the Larzuk socket quest from Act V.

Sword Base Item for Spirit

For swords, you will need an item level between 26 and 41 to guarantee four open sockets from the Larzuk quest. You can run the Secret Cow Level in Normal Difficulty and look for a white Crystal Sword to get one within the appropriate item level range. Then, take the Crystal Sword to Larzuk in Act V to have him socket it. The method also works for Broad Swords or Long Swords.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are item levels, more commonly known as iLvls. These are determined by the level of the monster that drops the item. The iLvl directly affects the number of sockets an item can have, which relates to this particular Spirit Rune Word since you will need a sword or shield with four open sockets. Pay attention to this because you don’t want to get too many sockets on a Sword from Larzuk accidentally.

Shield Base Item for Spirit

A Monarch is the most common base shield for crafting a Spirit. The reason is that this Rune Word is great for casters, and the Monarch Shield has the lowest strength requirements, a stat most casters don’t have in abundance. You can only get four-socket shields in Hell Difficulty from killing enemies. If you find one in Hell Difficulty, take it to Larzuk to get your four sockets so you can make Spirit.

If you are a Paladin class, you can find a Paladin shield from Secret Cow Level in Normal or anywhere in Nightmare or Hell Difficulty and take it to Larzuk to get four sockets.

You can also chance the number of sockets from a white item by using the appropriate Diablo 2 Resurrected Horadric Cube recipe. There’s no guarantee, but it’s another way to try and get lucky and find a proper base item for your Spirit. Again, the number of sockets is random, so it will require some luck.
