Diablo 2 Resurrected: Cannot Join or Create Game

Launch day for Diablo 2 Resurrected is not exactly going as smoothly as one would have hoped. With large-scale releases like this, it’s safe to assume there will be some problems due to the large influx of players hitting the servers and trying to connect. However, one of the more annoying bugs in Diablo 2 Resurrected makes it so players cannot join or create games.

The issue appears to be widespread, according to chatter on Twitter, affecting players across all platforms. We’re here to keep you posted on what players are reporting and relaying the information from Blizzard’s Customer Support social media accounts to keep you up-to-date.

Diablo 2 Resurrected: Cannot join or create game

If you’re trying to play D2R with friends, there’s a good chance you’re running into an issue preventing you from creating or joining games. Some issues players are reporting are a popup saying, “Failed to enter the game. This character is already in a game on the server. Please try again.”

Unfortunately, creating a new character or restarting Diablo 2 Resurrected does not resolve the issue. Nor does closing out the game and doing a Scan/Repair via Battle.net. The issue appears to be a synchronization error or phasing issue resulting from a previous disconnect, game crash, or switching lobbies. Your character is more or less stuck in limbo, which prevents you from playing on any character.

Luckily, Blizzard Customer Support is well aware of the issue. They released a statement on their official Twitter, saying that they are “continuing to work on problems affecting characters and game creation.”

Update: Rod Fergusson mentions they are working on adding server capacity, which may involve some server restarts.

Long story short, if you’re one of the unlucky people with this bug or error, there’s not much you can do at the moment. None of the tricks seem to do anything, such as clicking Play from the character creation screen, restarting the game, or rebooting your internet. It’s mainly a server issue, so you’ll have to wait it out.

You can stay tuned on the official @BlizzardCS account for updates or keep smashing that Play button if you’re desperate to get in. We’d recommend being patient and waiting for the team over at Blizzard to resolve the issues.
