How to Kill a Cryptid in Fallout 76

Cryptozoology is the study of cryptids, or “UMAs” if you prefer. A cryptid is pretty much any animal or creature whose existence is only supported by rumors and anecdotes. Y’know, things like the Loch Ness Monster, the Jersey Devil, and Bigfoot. In real life, the existence of these things is… debatable, but in the irradiated world of Fallout 76, there are cryptids around every corner! And if you’re so inclined, you can put bullets in them for fun and profit! Here’s how to kill a cryptid in Fallout 76.

“Kill a cryptid” is a type of daily challenge you can receive in Fallout 76. All you have to do is kill a single enemy that’s classified as a “cryptid,” and you’re done, though occasionally, you may get a variation of this challenge that requires you to kill more than one. But which enemy types are considered “cryptids?” Well, these ones:

  • Flatwoods Monster
  • Grafton Monster
  • Mothman
  • Sheepsquatch
  • Mega Sloth
  • Snallygaster
  • Wendigo
  • Aliens

Intimidating and esoteric these creatures may be, they’re still plenty vulnerable to bullets and pointy things. As long as you don’t encounter a legendary variety with some manner of special ability, you can go at pretty much any of them the same way you would any other kind of enemy.

As for where to find these creatures, they all have their own favored habitats. If you’re lucky, though, you’ll have access to the daily quest “Queen of the Hunt,” which will mark down a random cryptid for you to hunt. It’s okay if it’s part of a quest; as long as you kill any cryptid, it’ll count for the challenge. Otherwise, if you’d like a couple of suggestions, you can usually find Snallygasters in the Flooded Trainyard to the east of Watoga, and Wendigo Cave in the Savage Divide is absolutely lousy with Wendigos.
