Out of everything Genshin Impact cribbed from Breath of the Wild, gliding was definitely one of the best choices. You just can’t have a big, mountainous world to explore without providing some means of airborne mobility. If you’ve gotten especially good at gliding around Teyvat, perhaps you’d like to try your hand at the new Gliding Challenge. From now till December 14, you can participate in the Gliding Challenges located around Teyvat. They’re all marked on your map with a little wing symbol, so just find them and activate the little statue thing to start. Depending on how well you do in these challenges, you’ll receive rewards including Primogems, Mora, EXP books, and crafting materials. 

If you’ve completed Amber’s mission to obtain a gliding permit, then the Gliding Challenges should be a familiar matter. From your starting perch, you’ll need to carefully open and close your glider to fly through the Animo rings that make up the track. Along the track, you’ll find stamina orbs, which you’ll need to keep your glider open, and Insignia coins, which will determine the lion’s share of your final score.

To make things interesting, the courses are also scattered with obstacles, such as momentum-arresting Wind Breaker rings, vision-obscuring Dusty Balloons, and self-explanatory Explosive Balloons. You aren’t unarmed, though; for this event, you’ll have two special Gliding skills: Sprint and Ascend. As the names imply, Ascend will launch your character higher up, while Sprint will launch you forward at high speed. Ascend is vital if you miss more than a couple of rings and are too close to the ground, though it should be used sparingly, as it can easily send you up too high. Sprint works like an ultimate ability in that it has a gauge that needs to charge up. When it’s ready, let it loose on a straightaway path.

Your final score and award of a bronze, silver, or gold medal (and their equivalent rewards) are determined by a handful of factors, including how many Anemo rings you flew through, how quickly you cleared the course, and perhaps most importantly, how many Insignia coins you grabbed. Don’t worry if you didn’t do too well on a course, you’re free to try them again and get the next tier of rewards for the duration of the event. There are seven courses in all, each progressively more challenging, but if you’re not afraid of heights, then get out there and get gliding.
