How to Use Fireteam Finder in Destiny 2 Lightfall

Reach out and touch someone.

As that old jingle goes, “One is the loneliest number.” While Destiny 2 may still be a blast to play solo, players still need a squad or fireteam especially if they’re going to tackle some of the game’s more difficult tasks such as raids. But while you may have a group of buddies to play with, it can still be difficult scheduling time for you all to play together (especially as you get older). Fortunately, Destiny 2 has introduced a fireteam finder for those nights when you’re playing solo. Here’s how to use the fireteam finder to find teammates.

How to Join a Fireteam

With Destiny 2’s fireteam finder, there are two options: to host or to join. In order to join a fireteam, you need to be signed into both your PC/console and also Bungie.net or the companion app. Makes a certain amount of sense, doesn’t it?

Follow these steps to join a Fireteam:

  • Go to the Fireteam Finder location in Destin 2 and select join.
  • You can filter what types of fireteams you’re looking for – casual or hardcore competitive among other things.
  • Select a Fireteam to join and which character you want to use.
  • After the host finds enough players, then you will receive an invitation to join a group chat via Bungie.net or the Destiny Companion App.
  • The host will then need to send you an invite.

How to Host a Fireteam

But you can also create a fireteam in Destiny 2 as well, using the finder. As host, you also have the options of creating criteria for your perfect candidate for your team. You can choose to filter by platform, number of players, if a microphone is needed, and preferred language among other things.

  • To host a fireteam, go to the appropriate location and select host.
  • After you fill out the necessary preferences, the game will start searching for potential players.
  • All players will receive a notification of joining and the ability to chat among themselves via Bungie.net or the Destiny Companion App.
  • You will need to ask each of the players for their systems IDs so you can send them an invitation via chat. Unfortunately, this process isn’t automated like it would be if you were joining a friend’s game.
