To melee attack, you must have a melee weapon equipped in your hand. You cannot use your hands to go around punching stuff. To attack you would just use the same button you use to fire.

To block melee attacks, it will be different depending on which platform you’re playing on. For PC, the right mouse button will block. On PlayStation 4, holding L2 will block. On Xbox One, the left trigger will block attacks.

Blocking is an ability that can be increased by throwing skill points into Defense, which can unlock Perfect Block at 20 points. Perfect Block allows you to get a perfectly timed block that disorients targets and allows you to basically open up with a free attack.

That’s all you need to know when it comes to blocking melee attacks. It’s all about getting the timing down perfectly. Once you’ve mastered that, you will have no trouble in close combat situations.
