When Does Assassin’s Creed Codename Red Release?

Assassin's Creed Codename Red will finally bring players to feudal Japan, but when can gamers expect to get their hands on it?

Ubisoft officially outlined the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise during Ubisoft Forward 2022, and they’re bringing a slew of new games to consoles and PC over the next few years. One of these titles is Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, which will continue the open-world RPG design of the last few games in the series.

What Is Assassin’s Creed Codename Red?

Ubisoft hasn’t revealed much about Codename Red other than the location and historical era in which it will take place. Codename Red will finally bring players to feudal Japan and allow fans of the series to live out their shinobi fantasies. Ubisoft Quebec, the same studio behind such titles as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, is leading development on the game.

When Does It Release?

While there’s no official release date for Codename Red as of yet, gamers shouldn’t expect to see the game before 2024. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be the next title to join the Assassin’s Creed family sometime in 2023, which means Codename Red is probably at least a year out from there.

Even with Mirage’s smaller, narrative-focused scope, it’s probably safe to assume that Ubisoft has plans to support the game post-launch. Codename Red will likely release sometime after the last bit of content has been added to Mirage, which could be anytime in 2024.

Ubisoft has shied away from the annualized release schedule for the franchise since Syndicate’s tepid response. While Mirage does look to be a smaller experience than recent titles, Ubisoft may still be hesitant to release major Assassin’s Creed games so close together.

Codename Red also appears to be the first Assassin’s Creed game to join the Assassin’s Creed Infinity hub. As such, Infinity and Codename Red will either launch simultaneously or slightly staggered with the game releasing shortly after.

While you wait for Assassin’s Creed Codename Red to release, you can check out more news from Ubisoft Forward 2022, including a slew of new details on Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.
