Where to Find All EX Skills in Octopath Traveler 2

Maximize your potential.

In the original Octopath Traveler, there were a variety of altars you could track down that would bestow secondary jobs upon your characters. In Octopath Traveler 2, that role’s been delegated to the job Guilds, but the altars still have an important role to play: bestowing EX Skills. Here’s where to find all the EX Skills in Octopath Traveler 2.

Where to Find All EX Skills in Octopath Traveler 2

In Octopath Traveler 2, every member of your party has a special EX Skill they can learn that corresponds to their base job. These EX Skills are incredibly powerful, providing massive buffs or dealing tremendous damage (though they usually cost a lot of magic to use in a battle to compensate).

Every character has two EX Skills. The first one is unlocked by completing that character’s personal story, while the other, stronger one is unlocked by locating a particular altar in the world and interacting with it as that character.

Here’s a list of the EX Skills unlocked by finishing character stories:

  • Hunter: Provoke Beasts: Select three enemies and provoke them in the selected order.
  • Thief: Disguise: Disguises the user as another party member for three turns.
  • Dancer: Song of Hope: Extends the duration of all party members’ current buffs for 1-4 turns.
  • Apothecary: Remedy: Grants a random party member 3-9 random beneficial status effects.
  • Merchant: Share SP: Send 25-100% of the user’s remaining SP to another party member.
  • Cleric: Heavenly Shine: Use up all the user’s SP to cast Light magic on all enemies. The more SP used up, the higher the damage.
  • Scholar: One True Magic: Deal all-element magic damage to all enemies that is guaranteed to lower their shields by one.
  • Warrior: Shinjumonjigiri: Strike all enemies with a Sword attack, then follow up with an additional Sword attack on one enemy.

Here’s a list of the EX Skills unlocked by finding altars:

  • Hunter: Indomitable Beast: Buffs the user’s physical strength, speed, and evasion for three turns.
  • Thief: Veil of Darkness: Deals Dark damage to all enemies and guarantees evasion from the next physical attack.
  • Dancer: Windy Refrain: Deals Wind damage to all enemies and makes all of your party members act first on the next turn.
  • Apothecary: Drastic Measures: Wipes all status effects and debuffs from the user, then uses an Axe attack on one enemy. The more debuffs and effects that were wiped, the stronger the attack.
  • Merchant: Negotiate Schedule: Pay one enemy some money to let you take their action on the next turn.
  • Cleric: Prayer for Plenty: Heals all party members, over-healing them if the heal goes past their max HP.
  • Scholar: Teach: Copy all of the user’s current buffs onto another party member for two turns.
  • Warrior: Ultimate Stance: Allows the user to strike all enemies with their basic attacks for three turns.

Hunter: Altar of the Huntress

This altar is located in the Western Tropu’hopu Traverse, in the same area as the Hunter Guild. Head to the southeast side of the map, near the entrance to town, and look for a pair of red flowers with a pathway between them.

Thief: Altar of the Prince of Thieves

This altar is located on the Southern Clockbank Highroad. Find the canoe dock past the bridge and take a canoe southeast toward a waterfall and some lilypads to find a secret entrance.

Dancer: Altar of the Lady of Grace

This altar is located on the Northern Wellgrove Trail between Cropdale and Wellgrove. Head to the northeast of the area to find a large tree with a little cave entrance poking out from beneath it.

Apothecary: Altar of the Charitable

This altar is found on the Northern Conning Creek Coast, not far from the entrance to Conning Creek proper. Hug the eastern wall of the area and follow it north until you pass by a woman and through some sandy spots.

Merchant: Altar of the Trader

This altar is in the Western Crackridge Wilds, west of Crackridge proper. On the eastern side of the map, there are some train tracks, past which are stairs leading to some cave openings. There’s a chest in one, but if you proceed past the chest, you’ll find the altar.

Cleric: Altar of the Flamebringer

This altar is in Borderfall, located in the exact same church the Cleric Guild is based out of. To the left of the large statue is a nun, and near her is a bookcase. Maneuver your way behind the bookcase to find a hidden door leading to the altar.

Scholar: Altar of the Scholarking

This altar is in the Western Winterbloom Snows. There’s a big stone bridge in the western part of this area; make your way underneath it, and you can squeeze past some piled-up snow to find the entrance.

Warrior: Altar of the Thunderblade

This altar is in the Eastern Sai Sands, east of Sai proper. A short walk south of the local save point will bring you to a ruined house, which you can walk through to find a staircase leading down to the altar.

While EX Skills are not required to beat Octopath Traveler 2, your experience will be a heck of a lot easier (not to mention more interesting) if you can manage to track them down. Pay those ancient job masters a bit of respect, and you’ll get something neat in return!
