Octopath Traveler 2: Best Starting Characters

Pick Castti, honestly. She's the best.

Just as the first Octopath Traveler you were able to pick a character and start your journey. You had the opportunity to pick a character and after you were finished with their main story line quest you could pick another. In Octopath Traveler 2 you have a few different characters you can choose from. With all the characters out there you’re probably wondering which one works best for you? Do you want to play as a warrior? How about a mage? Here are the best starting characters you can play in Octopath Traveler 2.

Starting Characters Octopath Traveler 2

Side note for all of those reading but this is just information we are using based on the demo. Since Octopath Traveler 2 is not out yet we didn’t have much to go by. These may not be the best once the game comes out but these characters are in fact people we think you should pick first. If you choose the right characters to start your journey you could be looking at an enjoyable experience. Finding characters that can easily destroy enemies is what we’re aiming for. Here are the characters you should pick in Octopath Traveler 2.

Castti

This one is biased because we wanted to pick someone who could fill all the roles perfectly. We like a balanced game play versus someone that is just OP overall. Castti is the perfect choice if you’re looking to play around with a character who can play all roles. She can fight enemies using an axe and she also has the ability to heal your other characters. Personally, we like to play healing characters or mage characters because they’re just way more fun to work with. She has an ability called Healing Touch which will help heal a troubled character or she can revive them. She also uses what’s called Replenish Health that will grant healing over time. If you’re looking to pick a character to use as your first choice you should go with Castti.

Osvald

All enemies have weaknesses and the best part about Osvald character is that he’s able to sense those weaknesses. That’s extremely useful in battle because you want to know early on who is weak against which spell or which attack. Osvald also makes a great second choice if you’re looking for more nefarious ways to gain items. He can mug random townspeople to steal items from them. If you’re looking for someone with a bit of an edge towards morality you might want to pick up Osvald. We’re mainly picking him because of his ability to find enemies weaknesses. He also can hit multiple targets with his abilities so he’s beneficial to use in battle.

Ochette

Similar to Osvald being able to find enemies weaknesses, Ochette can attack enemies weak points easily. She also has the ability to venture to different areas of the map that weren’t accessible. Ochette and Osvald have plenty of advantages and it’s recommended to start off with one of the two. Personally, we’re still going for Castti because of her healing abilities. Ochette also has the ability to capture monsters. Those monsters can be converted to create items so obviously choosing her means you can get more items faster.

Those are the top characters we think you should pick if you’re playing Octopath Traveler 2. You should pick whoever you want but we think starting off with these characters will help tremendously in battle and gaining items.
