No Apex August: Apex Legends Strike Explained

Does #noapexaugust have legs?

It would seem that some Apex Legends players are calling for a boycott of the game during the month of August. Reasons for this #noapexaugust strike reportedly include a cavalcade of bugs that players do not believe are being attended to by the team at Respawn Entertainment. But, there seem to be many players who believe the boycott will either be ineffective, or that there’s no real reason for it.

Twitter user FoxesSoxes outlined specific reasons for the strike, including but not limited to the in-game chat being broken, there being issues with the game not playing audio, and an input delay for players on Xbox Series X|S. On the other hand, Reddit user u/sAmdong71 says they doubt the boycott will make a dent where it needs to because August marks the beginning of the new season of Apex Legends.

On June 29, Reddit user u/LaughingPrince made a post in r/apexlegends called “Can we all pick a day to not play apex and strike?” where they outlined their grievances.

“Apex runs pretty poorly and all the apex sub reddit are just a mix of Xbox input lag, audio issues, not being able to log in, hit regs, invincible wraith, loba bracelet not working,” u/LaughingPrince said. “Maybe just maybe if we could all pick one day to not log on EA and Respawn will have an oh s–t moment.”

It would seem this thread blew up shortly thereafter, where u/TheFlameKid coined the term No Apex August. The original post by u/LaughingPrince was then updated with the boycott’s phrase.

Will a Strike or Boycott Happen?

There are also a fair number of Apex Legends enthusiasts who believe this strike is pointless. Reddit user u/bakedcookie612 wrote in a post that, while the game isn’t perfect, there are plenty who still enjoy it.

“I’ve maybe spent $30 total on apex and for [the] time played I’ve easily gotten my monies worth. If you’re that concerned with the state of the game and want to stop playing I feel you, more importantly, I would stop spending money on the game,” u/bakedcookie612 said. “But getting this rally, that won’t ever happen, is a joke and the constant irrational post is getting absurd.”

We’ve reached out to Respawn Entertainment about this potential boycott and will update this story if and when they respond.
