How to Restore Faith in Cult of the Lamb

Can't run a cult if your followers hate you.

In Cult of the Lamb, your followers’ faith is represented by the round meter on the top-left of the screen. That meter shows how readily your followers believe in you, and if they believe in you, they’ll do whatever you say. If they don’t have Faith, though, they’ll start dissenting, or worse, leave. When things start dipping into the red, here’s how to restore Faith in Cult of the Lamb.

How to Restore Faith in Cult of the Lamb

Your followers’ Faith can be shaken by negative things like poor living conditions, a lack of food, mentally-stressful rituals and activities, and just generally being lousy to them in broad daylight. As such, the best ways to restore your followers’ Faith when it starts dipping is to do the opposite of all of that.

Methods to quickly raise Faith include the following:

  • Do your followers favors
  • Perform beneficial rituals
  • Utilize your Doctrines
  • Quickly deal with dissenters
  • Succeed in Crusades

Do Your Followers Favors

The first thing you need to do is show your followers you care. Performing blessings or use the Inspire command on them, give them gifts, or if all else fails, slip them some cash with the Bribe command. If one of your followers makes a request of you, accept it immediately, provided it doesn’t require something that would shake their Faith more like murdering someone in broad daylight. Above all of that, though, just make sure your followers have their basic needs met. Feed them regularly, ensure they all have beds to sleep in, and don’t let gross stuff like poop accumulate around them.

Perform Beneficial Rituals

Your playbook of rituals has a handful of options that will provide modest boosts to your followers’ Faith in exchange for some bones and other resources. As long as you’ve got the bones for it, you can perform multiple rituals one after another to quickly raise that Faith, though you’ll need to wait until a ritual cools down before you can do it again.

Bonfires, feasts, weddings, and funerals are all great ways to provide quick shots to Faith. If you don’t mind work going undone for a little while, you can also declare a holiday and give everyone the day off for the biggest possible Faith boost. Oh, and don’t forget to run Sermons and declare Doctrines as well.

Utilize Your Doctrines

In a similar vein to rituals, careful planning and usage of your cult’s Doctrines can provide a burst of Faith when you need it most. For example, if you took the Belief in False Idols Doctrine in the Possessions category, you can just build a few decorations around your base for some free Faith. Check your Doctrine book in the Temple to see what your cult would consider most apropos.

Quickly Deal With Dissenters

When Faith drops into the red, one or more followers are liable to become dissenters, shouting to other followers about how lame you are. This can lead to further Faith penalties, so they need to be dealt with swiftly.

When dissenters manifest, quickly place them in a prison to make an example out of them, or feed them a particular kind of food like a follower meat meal to bring them back to their senses. If those options are out, you can always just murder them at night when nobody’s looking. As long as you bury them before sunrise, no one will notice.

Succeed In Crusades

Every time you successfully make it to an endpoint in a Crusade and return safely, you’ll receive a Faith boost from your followers. Additionally, if you see any new followers on your Crusades, bring ’em home with you. New follower conversions bring Faith boosts as long as no one has a trait that makes them suspicious of newcomers.
