How to Play as Ms. Chalice in Cuphead DLC: The Delicious Last Course

All it takes is one little cookie.

Nothing says “fresh-baked DLC” like a new playable character. The base game of Cuphead is all about Cuphead and his pal Mugman, but if you install the Delicious Last Course DLC, you can also play as their good friend, Ms. Chalice. Here’s how to play as Ms. Chalice the Cuphead DLC: The Delicious Last Course.

As the DLC‘s introductory cutscene explains, Ms. Chalice is looking for a way to leave the Astral Plane and return to life, and she’s found a way to do so through Chef Saltbaker’s Astral Cookie. However, using the Astral Cookie requires someone to take Ms. Chalice’s place while she’s alive. This isn’t just a story detail, but an actual gameplay requirement.

In order to play as Ms. Chalice, you need to open your equipment screen, go to the Charms menu, and equip the Astral Cookie charm. This will swap Ms. Chalice in with whatever character you’re playing once you enter a level.

The obvious downside to this is that you can’t use any of your other Charms while playing as Ms. Chalice, since the slot is taken up by the Astral Cookie. However, Ms. Chalice’s gameplay differences basically have the same effect as equipping a Charm, so just think of it like that.

Ms. Chalice has the following gameplay differences from Cuphead and Mugman:

  • She has one extra point of health.
  • She has a double jump instead of the usual mid-air parry.
  • Her dash automatically parries any pink things she passes, giving her a jump boost.
  • Ducking and dashing makes her perform a dodge roll, during which she gets invincibility frames.

If you need any help getting acclimated to Ms. Chalice’s playstyle, interact with the newsstand next to Chef Saltbaker’s bakery for a quick tutorial. You’ll get a coin if you finish it!
