There was a fair bit of speculation leading up to the 30th Anniversary event on just how we could obtain the new Thorn-inspired armor. Thankfully, it’s actually earnable and not purchasable through the Eververse, just like the other new armor set, the Marathon armor.Â
Whereas that set is exclusively ornamental, the Thorn set is full-fledged armor, although you can always just transmog it. You need to own the set before you can turn it into an ornament, though, so here’s how to get the Thorn armor in Destiny 2.
How to Get the Thorn Armor in Destiny 2
To get the Thorn Armor in Destiny 2, you will need to complete the new Grasp of Avarice dungeon. There’s no telling how many runs it could take. The entire Thorn armor set on all three characters is exclusive to the Grasp of Avarice dungeon, with each encounter giving you a random chance at getting a piece to drop.
As of writing this, on December 8, there is no unofficial loot table for the new dungeon, meaning I can’t advise you on what boss you need to beat for each piece of armor (although there will be in a week or so).Â
That lack of information isn’t the only thing stopping you from just grinding out a set of this armor, though. According to DMG on Twitter, the new Grasp of Avarice dungeon is bugged, making it so you can only get rewards from it once per difficulty, per character.
The intention is for the boss drops to be farmable, with a patch expected for the issue next week. So if you’re reading this from December 14 onwards, you should have no problem farming the entire dungeon until you have a full set of the Thorn armor, especially if you use my Grasp of Avarice guide!
TLDR; Farm the New Dungeon
In short, the new Thorn armor in Destiny 2 drops from encounters in the Grasp of Avarice dungeon. If you want to get the armor, you need to complete the dungeon and hope you get the right drops. Will it take a while to get? Sure. But it’s a lot better than having to buy the set from Eververse.
Stay tuned and we will update this post with some more information about exactly which bosses you’ll need to take down in the Grasp of Avarice dungeon to get you that Thorn Armor in Destiny 2.
