Unlocking the Shotguns and Completing the Base Challenges

There are four Shotguns in the game. These are:

  • BRYSON 800 (Unlocked at Player Level 4)
  • EXPEDITE 12 (Unlocked at Player Level 9)
  • LOCKWOOD 300 (Unlocked at Player Level 36)
  • BYRSON 890 (Unlocked at Weapon Level 16 on BRYSON 800)

Players will need to first complete the 4 Base Challenges for the Shotguns. These are:

BRYSON 800

  • Get 40 Kills.
  • 15 Hipfire Kills.
  • Get 10 Double Kills (2 kills within quick succession).
  • 20 One Shot Kills.

EXPEDITE 12

  • Get 40 Kills.
  • 15 Hipfire Kills.
  • Get 30 Kills while ADS.
  • 25 Kills while Prone.

LOCKWOOD 300

  • Get 40 Kills.
  • 40 Kills using a Suppressor.
  • Get 25 One Shot Kills.
  • 20 Kills while Mounted.

BRYSON 890

  • Get 40 Kills.
  • 15 Point Blank Kills.
  • Get 10 Double Kills.
  • 25 Kills while Crouched.

Whilst going for these challenges, players will simultaneously level up these guns. Each Camo is unlocked at different Camo levels in the game. For example: Mosswood Camo for LOCKWOOD 300 is unlocked at Level 2, and Jungle Cat Camo is unlocked at Level 10. After players have completed the Base Challenges, the Gold Camo Challenge will be available. Complete this to unlock the Platinum Camo Challenge.

Tips for Completing the Gold Camo Challenge

The Gold Camo Challenge is to ‘Get 3 Kills without Dying 10 Times’. We recommend going onto the Modes: Domination, Invasion and Hardpoint. On Invasion it is best to place TAC Insertion near where enemies spawn in, this can be tracked via the Helicopter on the map. Next you will want to use Munitions Boxes and the Perk Fast Hands, this will replenish any used ammo and allow you to quickly reload.

Because the shotguns in this game are typically one shot, one kill, players can either play for enemy spawn points or wait inside contesting areas on Domination and Hardpoint. Players could also put on the Perk Double Time to get around the map quicker and get the shot off on enemies faster. Really it depends on how you want to play. The shotguns in Modern Warfare 2 are very powerful, especially at max level so running around and getting 3 kills in quick succession is more achievable than doing this for Assault Rifles.

As players need to get 3 kills without dying, we recommend using the perks Ghost or High Alert. Ghost will keep you hidden and off the map. High Alert will let you know if someone is aiming at you. Both very helpful perks to have equipped for this challenge. We also recommend using the perks Scavenger and Tracker, this is so you know where enemies are and can replenish ammo off their fallen bodies.

Once you have successfully unlocked the Gold Camo you will unlock the criteria to get the Platinum Camo on the Shotgun.

Tips for Completing the Platinum Camo Challenge

Once you have completed the Gold Camo Challenge you will unlock the Platinum Camo Challenge. This is the same for all four shotguns. The challenge is to ‘Get 20 Longshot Kills’. For this challenge we recommend putting on an optic for the Shotgun. The LONGWOOD 300 and EXPEDITE can get one shot kills, even when players are aiming down sights from a further distance. Whilst the pump shotguns, BRYSON 800 and 890 may require more shots at a longer range to kill an enemy. After unlocking the Gold Camo and having these shotguns on max level, you can add Slug Rounds to increase damage. This will help with the longer range kills you need to get for this challenge.

Add attachments onto these shotguns to increase the range. This makes it far more effective to execute one shot kills however the ADS speed drastically decreases as a result. For the Platinum Challenge however, having the attachment to increase range is the recommended method to complete this challenge. Whilst players could run through the lobby shooting any enemy they see, this challenge requires a slower, more patient approach. Using the Field Upgrade of Munitions Boxes will help here as you may find that you are pumping a lot of shells to take down one enemy from a distance.

Unlike the Gold Camo Challenge, it does not matter if you die during a match. The Platinum Camo Challenge is achievable by accumulating 20 kills across multiple matches. Players may wish to run the Perks High Alert and Fast Hands. Whether you are going iron sights or using an optic, with or without Slug Rounds, make sure that you are aiming at the chest and above. Players should max out the shotguns and aim here. The maxed-out shotguns are currently OP and broken. They are likely to get nerfed in a future update. For the Platinum Camo Challenge, players will hit one-shot long-range kills with their weapon maxed out.

Complete the mission and get those 20 Longshot kills. Those are our tips and tricks to completing the Platinum Camo Challenge for the Modern Warfare 2 Shotguns. For more MW2 content see: How to Unlock the Gold Knife in Modern Warfare 2.
