A new throwable item joins the Fortnite arsenal in Season 3’s first update. The Firefly Jar is a new weapon currently in a “test phase.” Players can lob them to damage and ignite enemy players and structures. You won’t find this new item inside chests like other loot, though. Here’s how to get the Firefly Jar in Fortnite Season 3, and some additional information to help you use it effectively.
How to get the Firefly Jar in Fortnite Season 3
Firefly Jars are throwable objects that require players to collect fireflies. On impact, these jars of fireflies deal about 40 fire damage and set players and structures on fire. Additional fire damage occurs when a player steps in the flames.
All players start with empty jars that they can use for catching fireflies. You can find these bugs all around the Fortnite Season 3 map, including coastal areas. When you come across a Firefly, all you need to do is interact with it to catch it in your jar and make a Firefly Jar. You can hold three of these at a time.
Once you catch a Firefly in your empty Jar, the grenade is ready to use. Epic says the new Season 3 items will undergo a two-week evaluation period. During this time, the items are not available in Arena or tournaments.
Limiting the new items’ exposure allows proper testing before making it into competitive play. Some new weapons have historically proven to be game-breaking, so this new process should allow people enough time to find any issues.
The Firefly Jar is one of many new weapons available in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3. There is likely many more items waiting to be introduced into the game later in the season.
