If there’s one thing (among many) that I remember from the first Psychonauts, it’s that people store their memories in vaults when they don’t want to think about them. When they really don’t want to think about them, those vaults are then stored in spots that are rather difficult to access, as is the case with the Psi King’s vaults in Psychonauts 2. Here’s how to get Psi King’s Memory Vaults in Psychonauts 2.
Inside the Sensorium, the mind of the Psi King, AKA the Brain in a Jar, AKA… well, that’s a spoiler. But anyway, in his mind, as with all minds, there are two memory vaults locking away pieces of his past, and if you want 100% collection, you’ll need to find them both. The good news is that finding the vaults themselves isn’t that difficult. The bad news is actually getting at them requires some specialized skills.
How to Get Psi King’s Memory Vaults in Psychonauts 2
Before we talk about where the vaults are, let’s cover how to get them.
Both vaults are locked behind large wooden gates with a small lever on the inside. Despite their composition, you can’t burn them with Pyrokinesis, and the lever is just out of reach of your Telekinesis. So how do you get at them?
Well, you can’t, but your archetype can. To get through these gates, you’ll need Mental Projection, a psychic ability learned in a later part of the game, after the questline to restore Ford’s mind. It’s likely a story decision, as Psi King’s memories are rather spoiler-y, so the devs probably wanted to make sure you actually finished the level before you got to see them.
As for the precise locations, the first vault can be found in Vision’s area. After crossing the first prism bridge and jumping across a few fans, you’ll see the barred chamber with the vault inside. Send your archetype in, and he’ll open the gate for you. The second vault is in the Concessions area of the festival, right near the beginning of the area. Same deal; send in the archetype and smack that vault open.
