Zombies Chronicles is the fifth DLC map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops III that features a total of eight different zombie maps from previous titles. Including Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II. However, arguably the most iconic map in the game is Origins, or Excavation Site 64 and Dig Site. Which hosts the incredibly powerful Elemental Staff known as the Staff of Fire.

How to claim and upgrade the fire staff on Origins in Zombies Chronicles

The Staff of Fire is one of four buildable Elemental Staffs in Origins, and arguably the most powerful. It shoots three balls of molten rock, horizontally, when fired, stunning nearby zombies and causing them to burn on impact. It can also be upgraded to the Kagutsucki’s Blood, which improves the blast radius and vaporizes any zombies hit in point-blank range. It also gains a secondary attachment called Sekhmet’s Vigor once upgraded. Which causes the player to flip the staff and use the bottom end.

To get the Staff of Fire, you will need to gather three parts of the staff and the elemental crystal. You will also have to obtain the gramophone and the correct records to access the Crazy Place and lower levels of the Excavation Site. Here are the locations for each;

  • The first part of the fire staff will appear in the reward box next to Generator 6 after it’s been powered. The second part will drop next to the soul box closest to the Excavation Site once the glowing orange plane in the sky has been destroyed. The third part will be dropped by the Panzer Soldat on round 8 once it has been killed.
  • The red record can be found near the church, generally spawning between some boxes in the tank and the staircase up or on the benches of the church opposite the basin. While the gramophone always spawns on the floor inside of the Excavation Site. The record to access the lower levels will be around the Excavation Site as well.
  • The elemental gem can be found inside the Crazy Place, but you’ll need the red record and the gramophone first in order to access it. Once inside the Crazy Place, there will be a pedestal that will open up with a red glow and the elemental gem will be inside.

Once you’ve collected all of the parts for the fire staff, you can then build it on the lowest level of the Excavation Site, on the red pedestal. Once built, it can be picked up by any player and upgraded to improve performance. The fire staff upgrade (Kagutsucki’s Blood) can be built if you;

  1. Solve the riddle located in the Crazy Place, which will task you with killing around 30 zombies using the fire staff on the metal grates.
  2. Once you’ve solved the riddle, another will appear in the original realm. In the basement of the church, there are seven torches on the wall with a number below each. Upstairs on the far wall, there will be symbols with four of them lit up. You will then need to decipher the symbols into numbers and light the torches with the appropriate numbers using the staff. Note that 4 is always one of the numbers.
  3. After all four torches have been lit, an audio cue will play and a beam of light will shoot up from the Excavation Site. You will then need to order the floating rings inside the lower levels of the Excavation Site so that they light up red. Then, the red orb inside must be shot with the staff.
  4. Finally, you will have to place the fire staff inside the red pedestal in the Crazy Place and kill around 20 zombies in order to collect their souls into the staff. At which point Samantha may talk to you about the “power of fire being available”, and the staff icon on the HUD should now have a red outline around it. Meaning that Kagutsuchi’s Blood can now be picked up from the pedestal.
