How to Beat Saigo in Like a Dragon: Ishin

Time to work bare handed.

Japanese swords are amongst the most legendary weapons the world and humankind have ever conceived. Such style, such aesthetic, such deadliness. Nothing compares to them. Well, today we will give them a rest from the action. Yes, I know, why would we ever do that? Honor, that’s why, and to ensure a fair battle. Here is how to beat Saigo in Like a Dragon: Ishin.

While you are used to handling your blade throughout Like a Dragon: Ishin, when battling Saigo Kichinosuke, you will have to use your bare hands, and your bare chest for the matter. You see, Saigo, being the commander of the Satsuma Domain’s army, does not use any type of weapons. Well, that would be if you don’t consider his powered fists and brawling skills as weapons. You will have to face him in a quite physical and, well, unclothed manner.

This battle is basically trying to parry his attacks, attack him on his back, and then prevent him from landing his charge attacks. If you see Saigo winding up, you are in trouble, so get out of his way immediately, since he will be able to knock you out almost immediately. Just try to read his movements, parry his regular wide swings, deal some damage afterward and keep yourself out from danger whenever he tries to land his charge attack. Do that several times, and you will be able to beat Saigo eventually.

Like any friendly parrying section, once you finish, you will be able to share some Sake with Saigo and you will be able to return home. This is an intense battle and the boss can be really unforgiving when dealing huge amounts of damage, but if you have good reflexes you will be able to neutralize him completely. Good luck!
