The latest release of Like a Dragon: Ishin has brought players a game they thought they wouldn’t ever get to play, due to the fact that the original was released only in Japan. With many people worldwide now getting to experience the story and gameplay, some PC players have been running into issues. Graphically, the game looks impressive, running on Unreal Engine 4 and utilizing DirectX12. However, people have been complaining of the game stuttering over time and in key critical moments of the gameplay. This has sparked debate and questions, mainly asking: how to fix stuttering in Like a Dragon: Ishin?

As mentioned above, the game uses DirectX12 which theoretically enables the game to be enhanced in fidelity as well as performance. Sadly, because of how it tries to cache the shaders of the game, this causes players to experience stutters in the game. This can become more prevalent as specific actions are happening on the screen. Some people have reported that these stutters only occur during the first time you boot up the game. However not everyone has said a simple restart of the game solved their dilemma. Thankfully, there is a workaround and a solution to these issues.

For players on PC who are still experiencing stuttering issues, you can switch your game from DirectX12 to DirectX11. This is a fairly simply process and only requires you to access certain things through Steam.

How to switch Like a Dragon Ishin from DirectX12 to DirectX11 on PC

  1. Make sure the game is closed before starting this process.
  2. Go to your Steam Library and right click on Like a Dragon: Ishin!
  3. Select Properties from the drop-down menu.
  4. Under the General tab, under Launch Options, type -dx11 into the box.
  5. Close the pop-up and start the game.
