Sophronia Franklin is an irritating Ravenclaw student upstairs in the Library. She’s a fan of quizzes, which you can take. During the course of her questioning, she’ll ask you what magical creature was used in Quidditch before the invention of the Golden Snitch. You’ll have three possible answers:

  • The Golden Snuggery
  • The Golden Snidget
  • The Golden Bird

As if the names weren’t a dead giveaway – the magical creature originally used in Quidditch instead of a Golden Snitch was called a Golden Snidget. These adorable little birds had rotary wings that allowed them to quickly dart in any given direction. They were also gold and round. In fact, the Golden Snitch’s design is directly based on that of the Snidgets after Wizards hunted them to extinction.

Give this answer to Sophronia and she’ll be satisfied, but it won’t stop her relentless onslaught of questions. It only gets worse from here, too, as the next two quizzes after this one are infinitely more difficult. Give them a try for yourself, if you’re brave enough.
