Mateo Kovačić is a Croatian midfielder who is usually deployed in a central or box-to-box role but can play in deeper positions. He is considered to be a versatile midfielder, having played in different midfield positions, so it’s easy to understand that compared to his counterpart in Liverpool – Naby Keita, Kovačić has a better attacking ability.
Kovačić has been described as a great technician with excellent dribbling abilities. His trademark is dropping deep to receive the ball and then driving forward, often performing his slalom runs, which is depicted perfectly in FIFA22. With 88 Acceleration, 93 Ball Control, and Dribbling, along with two Traits Flair and Technical Dribbler, whenever Kovacic starts his sprint, it’s almost impossible for any opponent’s players to retrieve the ball possession. Passing is another strength of this Croatian player. Talking about Physicality, it seems that Naby Keita and Mateo Kovacic share the same stats. However, Kovacic is 5’9″ and 80kg, making him much tougher and more resilient during a physical duel with opponents’ defenders or CDM.
Nevertheless, his Shooting seems to be lacking something that is unexpected or game-changing. That’s is because this Croatian rarely takes a shot, regardless of range.
