Road to the Knockouts (RTTK) and Road to the Final (RTTF) players are chosen from top players competing in the three biggest leagues in Europe: the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and the new-born Europa Conference League. All RTTK and RTTF cards aren’t built solely on individual performances; they are more expectation-based cards. For example, last year, Griezmann, with his lowest performance since he first became pro, still got his assigned overall of 88 for his Road to the Final card.
Like OTW cards, these cards will get an upgrade in rating if their teams’ performance meets one of the following requirements.
- Qualifies for the knockout stages of the same league they have been competing. If a club qualifies for the Europa League knockout stage by ranking 3rd in their group in the Champion Leagues, they will not be eligible for this upgrade.
- Wins at least 3 out of 4 next group stage matches.
For each requirement met, players of that team will receive one upgrade, which means these Road to the Knockouts are limited to a maximum of 2 upgrades in rating. If you are looking for RTTK to hoard, I recommend buying Chelsea, Juventus, Ajax, Bayern players at the moment, when they are both performing well and in easy groups.
So, if a club makes it through the group stages of these continental leagues and there is a player who doesn’t play any minutes throughout the whole group stage for the club, his card will still be upgraded. However, keep in mind that the Road to the Knockouts cards are only live until the end of group stages, which means they will not receive any upgrade when the leagues reach the Knockout stages. After it, the Road to the Final cards, expected to be released in December, will be the substitution for the Road to the Knockouts with nearly the same upgrade mechanism.
