Career Mode in FIFA is one of the franchise’s most popular game modes. However, it does carry some substantial flaws, with one of the most notable being the lack of customizable options. Typically, when you choose to take on the manager role of a new squad in FIFA, you’ll have the option to choose between the various real-life teams spanning across the globe. While this is certainly entertaining and undoubtedly helps to showcase the global reach of football, FIFA still falls short when compared to other major sports titles in terms of customizable options. FIFA 22’s Career Mode will officially feature the ability to create your very own custom team. So long as you play as the Manager in Career Mode, players will have the option to create their own team name, team crest, home and away kits, individual players, and even their home stadium.
You will also be able to customize your squad’s initial ‘star rating’, which will help determine the overall quality of your players and the club board’s priorities laid out at the start of the season.
For example, if your club carries a 5-star rating, then you will most likely be tasked with winning the league outright, but if your team has a 1 or 2-star rating, then it could simply be just avoiding relegation or finishing the season ‘in the green’ financially.
Also, according to senior game designer Alex Constantinescu, the initially generated players for your team will accurately reflect the league they’re playing in. That means if a particular nationality is strongly represented within a given league, and you choose to build a team within that league. Then your team will too carry a large majority of players with said nationality.
Constantinescu explained, “Let’s assume that 7% of the players in the English Premier League have French nationality. Each time a player is generated for your squad in the English Premier League, there’s a 7% chance that they could be French.”
Beyond this, you’ll have the ability to customize your team further, including full control over the team’s initial average age, scouting processes, and youth team development.
