Does the Sonic Frontiers PS5 Version Use Haptic Feedback?

What Platform Will You Explore the Frontiers On?

Sonic Frontiers is now available! And, as such, the eternal question must be asked: what platform should you play it on? If you’re one of the lucky ducks to have a PS5 in your possession, you might wonder if the latest adventure in the iconic franchise takes full advantage of the improved hardware or not. It’s a valid question, but according to some users in the Sonic Frontiers subreddit, you might be disappointed.

Does Sonic Frontiers Use the PS5 Haptic Feedback Function?

It doesn’t look like it, according to users in the Sonic Frontiers subreddit. Redditor u/Weak-Froyo-8504 asked other users if they’ve noticed the game utilizing the PS5’s unique features. But, according to u/guestuser029 — the jury’s out on if that’s a user-generated name or not — after playing for multiple hours, they failed to notice any utilization of the haptic feedback.

In addition, user u/Maximum-Magazine-840 confirmed that “the adaptive triggers also arent [sic] effected,” and that “cutscenes dont [sic] activate vibration either,” which could mean the biggest difference between the PS5 version and the others is the maximum resolution and frame rate.

Speaking of — according to Twitter user @tadanohi, the resolutions and frame rates are:

  • 4K, 30 FPS / Full HD, 60 FPS for PS5
  • Full HD, 30 FPS for PS4
  • 720p, 30 FPS for Switch

So, you might not be missing too much if you opt to get Sonic Frontiers for one platform over another. It looks like this decision can be based entirely on personal preference. If you want the benefit of having the Blue Blur on-the-go, then grab it for the Switch. But, if you want to trade mobility for higher definition, you may want to get it for PS4, or if you’re the luckiest among us, the PS5.
