A “cataclysm” is defined as a large-scale and violent event or upheaval. Basically, if everything everywhere is just going completely bonkers and exploding in your immediate vicinity, that’s a good example of a cataclysm. And guess what? That’s exactly what you’re in for in the first phase of Destiny 2’s Root of Nightmares Raid. Here’s how to complete the Cataclysm Encounter in the Root of Nightmares Raid in Destiny 2.
Destiny 2: How to Complete Cataclysm Encounter – Root of Nightmares Guide
Cataclysm is the first encounter in Destiny 2’s Root of Nightmares Raid, and to say they’re starting you out with a doozy is an understatement. It seems simple enough on the surface: all you have to do is transport a Traveler orb from a starting point all the way to the other side of the battlefield. You do this by shooting the orb within its radius, which will spawn a follow-up orb in a node further down the line with a path linking them together. Push the orbs all the way to the end, and you’re clear.

Here’s the rub: during this encounter, every member of your team is inflicted with a timed penalty called Sweeping Terror. If the clock runs out on Sweeping Terror, your whole party gets stomped instantly. So not only do you need to keep that orb safe, but you also need to defeat specific enemies to refresh the timer on Sweeping Terror.
As you transport the orb, you and your teammates need to stay within the radius of the orb, not just to move it, but to get a buff. Anyone who shoots the orb while inside of its sphere of influence will receive the Field of Light buff, though there’s a brief cooldown between buffs.
Pushing the Orb
Start by having a couple of players shoot the orb to power it up and spawn the next orb, while the other players scout out the Psions lurking nearby in their own spheres of influence. You need to kill the Psions to spawn Tormentors, then kill the Tormentors to both refill the timer on Sweeping Terror and make the next node appear. You can’t push the orb without a node to push it to, but someone also has to stay behind to keep the orb safe, so a tag-team approach is vital here.
When the orb moves to the next node, you’ll lose your Field of Light buff, so get ready to run like heck to the next spot. Once you make it there, start shooting the orb at the new node to power it up and reactivate the Field of Light while your teammates hunt down the next Tormentor.
Keep pushing the orb and hunting down the Tormentors until you do a complete lap of the battlefield. You’ll get a message that reads “his hatred halts,” and an exit point will appear next to where the encounter started. Head to the exit to complete the encounter and continue to the next one. Hope you liked that little game of kill the carrier, ’cause it’s only going to get weirder from there.
