Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War post-launch patch targets one weapon

One gun has dominated Cold War’s multiplayer mode in the first week since launch, and it’s none other than the MP5. Luckily, Treyarch acted quickly to community feedback and pushed out a patch to balance the weapon and keep it on par with the rest of the SMGs.

Treyarch’s Twitter announced the post-launch update, which reduces MP5 damage range by 33% and nerfs the initial recoil by a significant amount. Many Cold War players complained about this weapon ruining their experience, so we’ll have to wait and see if this is enough to fix the issue.

The MP5 had countless advantages, and, well, barely any cons to it. The high fire rate, pinpoint accuracy, and high effective damage range made it an all-around monster. Some videos were floating around of players outgunning snipers with it at long-range. Some might argue the range was the most annoying thing about it. A submachine gun should not have that kind of range.

Treyarch received the feedback, and Tony Flame, the lead game designer on Black Ops Cold War, stuck to his promise that there would be weapon balances coming soon.

This update marks the first post-launch balance patch to date for Black Ops Cold War. While it is limited to a single gun, the team is hard at work on other balance changes and fixes for the upcoming Season 1.

As Treyarch put it, it’s time to get out there and try the rest of the submachine guns. We’re hoping we see a lot fewer MP5 loadouts tonight during our sessions.
