Broom vs Hippogriff: Which is Better to Ride in Hogwarts Legacy

And it's not even close...

Broom vs Hippogriff is an internal debate most Hogwarts Legacy players have had with themselves. Both options serve the same purpose – they let you fly out in the open world, decreasing your travel time substantially. You can only use one of them at a time, though – so which is better?

In terms of speed, whether or not it’s better to use your broom or a Hippogriff depends on what broom upgrade you have. Flying from the Lower Hogsfield Hamlet to Hogsmede, we got these times:

  • Hippogriff – 1 minute 3 seconds.
  • Level Three Upgraded Broom – 50 seconds.

The level three upgraded broom is significantly faster than a Hippogriff. Not only that, but it’s also more nimble, agile, and easier to maneuver around buildings and terrain. There’s no difference in the broom vs Hippogriff debate here – the broom is better.

What if your broom isn’t upgraded, though? Well, the speed difference is so marginal that we would still recommend the broom. If you were going on a long-distance flight, perhaps you would be better off riding a Hippogriff. For everything else, though, they’re just too awkward to maneuver.

Being able to ride a Hippogriff is more of a role-playing/fan service inclusion as opposed to a functional utility option. We all remember all Buckbeak from Prisoner of Azkaban, Highwing is meant to mirror that. Riding on a Hippogriff is obviously way more enjoyable than riding on a broom, but it isn’t the practical option.

We were curious, so we checked whether or not the mount you have equipped affects its speed. As you might have suspected, it doesn’t. The mount you’re using is purely an aesthetic difference akin to a skin. The base speed remains the same regardless – meaning it’s always better to use a broom.
