Best Games to Play Instead of Hogwarts Legacy

Some great alternatives to play!

With only a month or so looming until the release of Avalanche Software’s Hogwarts Legacy, there is sizeable anticipation from many for its release. But there is also a large part of the gaming community that’s essentially going to boycott the game since it has ties to franchise creator, J.K. Rowling who has been under fire for many anti-trans statements, as well as there is a less than sensitive representation of slavery in-game, and anti-semitic depictions of a race of characters.

So with there being so many justifiable reasons to boycott such a game, what are these players to do? Well, we’ve come up with a great list of the best games to play instead of Hogwarts Legacy! Let’s check them out!

Best Games to Play Instead of Hogwarts Legacy

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

It should be no surprise to anyone that The Witcher 3 is actually a perfect title to play instead of Hogwarts Legacy. Players get to fight off wild beasts, there are deep RPG elements in dialogue and gameplay, as well as a massive magical world to explore. You can’t go wrong with it!

Fable 3

Though an oldy, Fable 3 is a goody, as players get a similar take as with The Witcher 3, though with more whimsy. The world may be just as dark at times, but this cartoony version is definitely lighter for those not ready for something dauntingly dark.

Forspoken

Another newer game that has a strong focus on magic is this month’s Forspoken. Blending the real world with a fantastical one, Forspoken is certain to deliver a great narrative as well as some intriguing gameplay that’s sure to grab the player base anticipating it.

The Chant

A totally underrated hidden gem, The Chant has a lot of dark themes, though never goes too far into horror territory. It gives players moments eerily similar to darker moments in the Harry Potter world. The Chant is a great, concise title that has a gripping story as well as interesting gameplay to boot.

Elden Ring

There’s no doubt that Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy have a lot in common. But the thing is, Elden Ring is sure to give you hours more of content as well as offer more precise gameplay in the process. It has dark fantastical themes as well as some pretty deep player customization for those longing for it.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

If you’re looking for a fantasy game, through and through, then Dragon Age: Inquisition could be that for you. There are many classes to choose from, and the story gives players some great payoff with relationships they can build. It also features a large open world for players to explore.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

What’s better than regular wizards? Space wizards! Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is yet another great swap for those interested but not invested in Hogwarts Legacy. Its story is finely tuned, as well as the combat, which will leave you hungry for more. The best part is the fact that the game’s sequel, Jedi: Survivor is set to come out in early 2023, giving you ample time to finish it beforehand.

Control

A title that readers may have not seen coming is Remedy’s own, Control. It features a lot of sci-fi elements but also has physics-bending combat and movement, similar to that of the Harry Potter world and its wand combat. It’s just a great game that really deserves to be played.
