A Diablo 2 Remaster is apparently in the works, according to sources. This rumor has been going around for a while now in the action-RPG community. Activision subsidiary Vicarious Visions is reportedly going to be handling the remake. Vicarious’ past work includes a Destiny 2 port, Crash Bandicoot N Sane trilogy, Skylanders, and many more.
The news comes from an article on French gaming site ActuG. They previously predicted the Diablo 4 announcement, Shadowlands, and others prior to their official showcases.
A new title by the name of Diablo 2 Resurrected, which is a remaster of the classic Diablo game, is one of many projects currently being worked on at Activision. The release is set for Q4 2020 but could change due to the current quarantine situation, according to ActuG.
While there are reports of this new remaster dropping in Q4, there has been no official word from Activision/Blizzard. Perhaps we will see an announcement at the Summer Game Fest, where Blizzard, Bungie, Bethesda, and others showcase upcoming titles.
Other Games in Development
Aside from Diablo 2 Resurrected, we also know of a few other titles are in development. Titles include new World of Warcraft expansions, Diablo Immortal, Overwatch 2, and Diablo 4. The report also noted three mobile games are in the works. There has been no confirmation whether or not they are Blizzard franchises, though.
Diablo 4 was unveiled back in 2019 at BlizzCon. The game will feature a non-linear campaign, an open world, completely new dungeons and monsters, mounts, new classes and abilities, and much more.
The trailer for Diablo 4 was the highlight of BlizzCon for many people. After all, it is the number one hack and slash game in the genre. Many players also feel a new Diablo game is long overdue. This and the Diablo 2 Remaster could potentially be big hits when they finally release.
