Before you can have a go at the Kensei Armor, you need to have progressed a certain way into the main story campaign. Specifically, you need to have completed the story mission “A New Horizon” in Act 2. Once that’s checked off, you need to go find a musician named Yamato. He’s hanging out in Umugi Cove on his hands and knees. Talk to him, and he’ll spin you the Mythic Tale of “The Six Blades of Kojiro.”

How to Get Kensei Armor in Ghost of Tsushima

For this Mythic Tale, you’ll need to find and kill five Straw Hat assassins, followed by Kojiro himself. The locations of the five assassins are marked on your map, so just follow the mark until you come upon them. Hopefully, you’re good at parrying, because these dudes know a thing or twelve about handling a sword, and won’t go down without a proper fight.

Once you’ve dissuaded the five Straw Hat assassins from being alive, go talk to Yamato again, and he’ll tell you where to find Kojiro. You’ll find him at the Omi Monastery, unsurprisingly located near Mt. Omi. Have a quick chat with Kojiro when you find him and then defeat him in one last duel to complete the Tale and earn your Kensei Armor and Headband. These babies have the following buffs:

  • Increase Resolve gains by 15% to 30%.
  • Ghost Weapon damage increased by 15% to 30%.
  • Striking enemies with Ghost Weapons lessens their damage by 25% to 50%, and reduces their defense by 25% to 50%.

Congratulations on obtaining the Kensai Armor, the best armor in Ghost of Tsushima.
