How to assign item slots in Sons of the Forest

In Sons of the Forest, you thankfully have ten item slots, or hotkeys, at your disposal to use. Ever since the glorious hotfix, players are now able to assign ten items of their choice to an item slot for easy access. Using this system is incredibly easy and accessible and has made the game much, much easier for everyone. And if you prefered the more realistic rendition of inventory management, then simply don’t assign any.

To assign an item slot, simply open up your inventory. Hover your mouse over an item that you will want instant access to, such as a weapon or trap, or healing or food item. Then, press a number on your keyboard to assign that item an item slot.

When you exit your inventory, you will be able to simply press a number and the assigned item will be procured for you immediately. No more shifting around your inventory constantly, you now can respond to any situation as it happens.

If you want to optimise your inventory even more, then using the backpack will be the way to go. With your inventory open, right click it to open up its menu. You can drag items that don’t have an item slot into your backpack. From now on, instead of clicking ‘I’, hold it. Your backpack will be brought out and you can quickly click on the item you want.
