Whenever an MMORPG gets sufficiently large, people become a lot more reluctant to travel its world on foot. This is why most of these kinds of games provide mounts like horses, as well as flying mounts like small dragons. I have friends who will load up entirely different games while traversing long distances in World of Warcraft. New World only just recently released, so its world is not even close to being the same scale as World of Warcraft. As such, mounts have not yet been introduced to the game. But will New World ever have mounts?
Will New World Ever Have Mounts?
According to statements from the game’s developers, New World’s realm of Aeternum simply isn’t yet of a size to warrant the inclusion of mounts. You can get just about anywhere you need to be by either walking on foot or utilizing the game’s fast travel system. There’s even a piece of lore in-game titled “The Animals Revolt,” which explains why nobody uses horses, donkeys, or wagons.
“Please remember that there are NO beasts of burden on Aeturnum. No horse or donkey will pull your cart, carry your pack, or tolerate a rider. All efforts to domesticate or re-domesticate these animals have led only to injury and a lot of swearing.”
But while mounts are not currently available in New World, the developers do have a roadmap for future additions, and mounts could make their way on there at some point. According to New World’s director, Scot Lane, mounts may be added “when we feel players will benefit from them and we can do them in a really cool way that works for us.” Prior to the implementation of mounts, the devs are also considering a means of transporting items between settlements such as wagons or wheelbarrows, as item storage is on a strictly local basis.
