Which Infiltrator Gear Should I Unlock First in Destiny 2?

The FOMO is real.

During Season of the Seraph, there will come a time when you’ll be asked to unlock your first Infiltrator gear upgrade in Destiny 2. There are three to choose from, and you’ll only be allowed to pick one. The other two will be time-gated to later steps in the season’s main quest. With that being said, which Destiny 2 Infiltrator gear should you unlock first? and why?

I’m going to run you through the order that I recommend for unlocking the three Infiltrator gear upgrades. You don’t have to follow my recommendation – but you will be locked out of content until a later day if you do.

  1. Security Clearance
  2. Tactical Armor
  3. Extreme Ordinance

I recommend unlocking the Security Clearance Infiltrator gear first. This gives you access to some locked doors inside Battleground Heists and Operation: Seraph’s Shield. Most notably, you’ll have access to the final nodes you need to unlock the Revision Zero Exotic Sparrow. You could get to them before, but not without glitches.

Beyond that, I recommend you take Tactical Armor second. This will let you disarm traps in both previously mentioned activities, as well as grant you damage resistance against traps and lasers. Both this and Security Clearance have content locked behind them. So, I recommend you take them first.

Lastly, we have Extreme Ordinance. Out of the three Destiny 2 Infiltrator Gear upgrades, this one is actually the most powerful. It gives you bonus damage against Deathtongue Choristers in Battlegrounds – which have notoriously high health pools. It also gives you bonus damage against the Servitors in Seraph’s Shield and gives you access to a spawning power-up that refreshes your abilities.

Despite being very practical, Extreme Ordinance has no content locked behind it – unlike the other two Infiltrator gear upgrades. So, you’re better off saving that one for last.

Ultimately, all three upgrades are worth getting, but you need to consider how much actual value each one offers. Sure, Extreme Ordinance will make your Heists quicker, but the other two give you access to content that you previously were locked out of. That makes them more valuable in my books, but maybe you disagree.
