Pill bugs, or “roly-polies” as they’re affectionately dubbed by the children of the world, are harmless little insects that roll up into a protective ball when poked. You can find them pretty much anywhere, except, apparently, in Bakumatsu-era Japan, where they’re weirdly rare. Here’s where to find pill bugs in Like a Dragon: Ishin.
Where to Find Pill Bugs in Like a Dragon: Ishin
Pill bugs are a miscellaneous item you can obtain in Like a Dragon: Ishin. For the most part, they don’t have any particular value; you can’t use them to craft stuff, and they don’t sell for much at the pawn shop. However, there is exactly one situation in the game where you need to get a bunch of pill bugs together.

In Another Life, one of the delivery orders Haruka gives you after you fulfill a few of them is from a local biologist who wants ten pill bugs. Why this person thinks a random villa in the countryside sells pill bugs is a mystery to me, but he’s offering cash, so you gotta hunt down some of the little suckers.
Pill Bug Locations
Pill bugs can’t be bought in any stores, nor can they be dropped by defeated enemies. Indeed, despite their unimportance, they are one of the most obscure items in the game. The only way to get pill bugs is to find them in item jars in the overworld.
Whenever you see a jar with a white circle drawn on it and a lid on top, you can interact with it for a random item. Pill bugs are one of the items you may receive, though their odds of spawning in jars in most areas of Kyo are low. However, you are much more likely to find pill bugs if you search the jars in the poorer areas of the city like Sannocho and Umekojicho. Mukurogai, in particular, is an excellent spot for hunting pill bugs, as they have their highest spawn rate there and the area’s circular layout makes it easy to take a quick lap and check the jars.
Since the jars aren’t always available to check, you may need to do a few laps or come back later before you can get ten pill bugs, but they will show up there eventually. Consider it an opportunity to familiarize yourself with Mukurogai’s amenities.
