Tears of the Kingdom is the highly-anticipated sequel to Breath of the Wild, one of the most influential Legend of Zelda games to date. If you loved Breath of the Wild or just love the Legend of Zelda franchise in general, then you definitely need to get yourself a copy of Tears of the Kingdom (assuming you haven’t already).
One of the biggest threats to players in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom is the Lynels. Lynels are vicious, terrifyingly strong enemies that can singlehandedly launch Link into the next dimension with little effort. Whether you’re trying to hunt them all down or avoid them altogether, it always helps to know where these monsters are located. Here is a list of all the locations you can find Lynels in Tears of the Kingdom!
Where to Find Lynels in Tears of the Kingdom
Lynels are some of the most dangerous hostile creatures in Tears of the Kingdom. It’s unlikely that you’ll stumble across one in the wild by accident, but it’s still nice to know where they are just in case!
There are currently only a handful of known locations in Tears of the Kingdom where Lynels can be found, and none of them are very likely to be found by accident. Here are all of the Lynel locations in Tears of the Kingdom:
Red-Maned Lynel Locations
There are around 17 Red-Maned Lynels in Tears of the Kingdom, which may seem intimidating at first, but they’re thankfully only found in these locations:
- Central Hyrule – West Hyrule Plains: 1 Red-Maned Lynel
- Akkala – Deep Akkala: 2 Red-Maned Lynels
- Lanayru – Rabia Plain: 5 Red-Maned Lynels
- Gerudo – Lake Illumeni: 9 Red-Maned Lynels

- Hebra – South of Hebra West Summit: 11 Blue-Maned Lynels
White-Maned Lynel Locations
There are a whopping 17 White-Maned Lynels in Tears of the Kingdom, which is frankly more than a little unnerving. Thankfully, you should only ever happen to run into these bloodthirsty beasts if you’re traversing these areas:
- Akkala – Ukuku Plains: 3 White-Maned Lynels
- Necluda – Kamah Plateau: 6 White-Maned Lynels
- Gerudo – Risoka Snowfield: 8 White-Maned Lynels
Silver-Maned Lynel Locations
Silver-Maned Lynels are by far the most terrifying adversaries in Tears of the Kingdom. They, like other Lynels, offer impressive loot when killed, but taking them down is much harder than you’d think. Here are all 17 of the Silver-Maned Lynel locations in Tears of the Kingdom:
- Faron – Nautelle Wetlands: 7 Silver Lynels
- Hebra – Tama Pond: 10 Silver Lynels

All Lynel Types and What They Mean in Tears of the Kingdom
You may have noticed that Tears of the Kingdom’s Lynels are color-coded, similar to the Lynels in Breath of the Wild. Just like in Breath of the Wild, the color of a Lynel determines how strong it is; all Lynels in Tears of the Kingdom are tough, but some are much stronger than others.
Here is a list of all Lynel types in Tears of the Kingdom ordered by how strong they are:
- Silver-Maned Lynel – Strongest
- White-Maned Lynel – Second Strongest
- Blue-Maned Lynel – Second Weakest
- Red-Maned Lynel – Weakest
Just because the Red and Blue-Maned Lynels aren’t as strong as their White and Silver counterparts doesn’t mean they should be underestimated.
Being caught off guard by a Lynel of any color could spell death for even the most seasoned of TOTK players; always make sure you stock up on strong weapons and healing items prior to taking on a Lynel, no matter what type it is!
Lynels are easily some of the most dangerous adversaries in Tears of the Kingdom, but they definitely aren’t the only enemies you’ll have to look out for.
