Though the PlayStation 5 has only been around for just about 2 years now (originally released in 2020), there is never a shortage of news, speculation, and flat-out rumors surrounding its successor that’s sure to release somewhere down the line.
But if you’re like me, love some good buzz surrounding things like this, as it gives you something to look forward to in the future. So, let’s talk about when the PS6 could release as well as the rumors, news, and everything else surrounding it!
When Will the PS6 Release? Rumors, News, and Everything to Know
There isn’t so much known right now, but there are certain hopes and rumors to speak of, as well as things to keep in mind when thinking about the possibility of a PS6.
When Will the PS6 Release
As of right now, there isn’t a set date by Sony, nor is there really too much of a window. But if PlayStation’s last few major console releases are any indication for approximating when the PS6 could come out, the release is typically between 7 and 9 years, give or take.
So the soonest we could see a PS6 is going to be in 2027. Though Sony Executive VP of Hardware Engineering, Masayasu Ito has been quoted in the past as saying that the PS5’s lifecycle could only last about 6 or 7 years.

Rumors
The thing you’re going to see most about the PS6, at least for now, are outlandish rumors. And as with many future console releases, there are some that may actually come to fruition but then there are some that are simply impossible.
There have been rumors that the console is going to be much smaller, ones that suggest that it’ll have modifiable parts like a PC, and even the inclusion of whatever VR headset the company is pushing at that time. These are really the best and possibly most interesting rumors so far.
News
Of course, there have been job listings for PlayStation with a description that could indicate there is work on a new console. But while that may be true, it will take years of testing and improving until it’s ready for consumers’ hands. Besides this, there isn’t any news about the PS6 so far.
Everything Else to Know
It’s important to be mindful of the fact that most consoles, especially those from PlayStation, go through new iterations before fully moving onto a new platform altogether. The PlayStation saw 3 iterations and the PlayStation 4 saw 2.
So it’s safe to say that we’ll see at least one new PlayStation 5 before leaving it behind for the superior PlayStation 6. A new PlayStation 5 could see a smaller design and better parts to increase the power of the console to heights that may be closer to a PS6.
