What Happens to the Traveler in Destiny 2 Lightfall?

There's no way we can lose.....right?

The latest expansion for Destiny 2 has arrived and much like The Witness, it means business. Lightfall brings a plethora of changes and additions to the game. Adding a new darkness ability with Strand, and showing the Guardians the beginning of the end. In the last cinematic we had in the game, the Traveler was stuck between Earth and The Witness. With nowhere to go, and their enemy at their doorstep, many have wondered: what happens to the Traveler in Destiny 2 Lightfall? We’re going to answer this question, as well as start to speculate on where the game might take us in the next expansion.

The beginning of Lightfalls campaign picks up right where the last cinematic for Season of the Seraph left off. The Witness has brought their pyramids to confront the Traveler and stop it from fleeing. A massive space battle ensues, with everything coming to a grinding halt when The Witness emerges. Dispatching the remaining Guardians with a simple flick of their wrist, they trap the Traveler in a ring of pyramids. Trapped and helpless, the Traveler is at the mercy of whatever it is The Witness has planned.

After progressing through the story missions of Lightfall and defeating Calus on Neptune, we are shown an cutscene. One where Empress Caital and Nimbus meet up with us to discuss what’s next. But before anyone can figure anything out, The Witness takes control of our Ghost and uses it to make a connection between the primordial light and darkness. This allows them to carve a triangle on the Traveler, open the Veil, and traverse through it. Seemingly lost and unsure of what to do, the Vanguard tell you to continue to learn about the Veil, with the hope of catching the trail of The Witness. Which leads us right into Season of the Defiance. So eyes up Guardian, just because you’ve finished the campaign doesn’t mean the fights over yet. The fight’s just begun.
