What Does “Take Your Time” Mean in Persona 5?

A message with a cautionary meaning.

When it comes to the world of Persona 5, developers Atlus like to make the most subtle parts of the game the most impactful. This can be seen from the blue butterfly at the very beginning of the game, all the way to the very end. And in Persona 5, there are quite a lot of these subtle references to the game’s theme, ideologies, and it’s message. The Phantom Thieves’ name itself can also be broken apart as a way of informing the players that while they’re thieves, their objective involves stealing a “treasure” that many hide inside themselves. Leaving fans of the game to ask the question: what does “Take Your Time” mean in Persona 5?

When you play Persona 5 or its extended Persona 5 Royal, players might see an interesting phrase repeated over and over again. The phrase “Take Your Time” is attached to the game’s loading screen and can be seen numerous times over the course of a playthrough. Many might think this is a reference to the in-game clock, where players have to plan things like working a part-time job, studying, and hanging out with friends.

It seems that this idea of the game wants you to not only focus on the main gameplay loop of palaces and dungeon crawling in Mementos. Instead, the game implores you at every moment to take a second, and appreciate the world around you. On the other hand, other fans think the phrase has an entirely different meaning.

Some fans have surmised that “Take You Time” references the act of stealing a horrible person’s heart. So while you constantly send out calling cards alluding to the fact that you are stealing someone’s heart, in actuality you’re taking away their time. Furthermore, it seems that the game’s theme of time waiting for no one bleeds over into the very loading screens of the game. Letting you know that the Phantom Thieves of Hearts are coming for you.
