Top 10 Best M Rated Switch Games

Though the Switch caters to families, there are some great Mature games to check out too.

Although aimed at families and children, the Nintendo Switch has a hefty part of its games library with an M-rating. And though you won’t find too many of these titles coming directly from Nintendo itself, you will find tons from third-party developers. We’ve scouted the M area of the Nintendo Switch eShop and have come up with the top 10 best M-rated games it has to offer.

How to View M Rated Games on eShop Switch

Before we get into this list it’s important to note that you need to make sure that your Switch’s Parental Controls are set appropriately, otherwise you won’t be able to view any of these games in the eShop. You can access the Parental Controls via the Nintendo mobile app or by pressing the “Home” button on your Switch, going to “Settings”, and then “Parental Controls” to adjust them. That’s all there is to it!

Bayonetta 2

Starting off our list is a Nintendo exclusive. Bayonetta 2 is a fantastic beat ’em up with a vibrant world of magic and demons. The story is a bit outlandish but the main draw for this title is its tightly-crafted visceral combat that leaves you hungry for more upon finishing it. With Bayonetta 3 on the horizon, there’s no better time to check this one out.

Life is Strange Remastered Collection

A narrative-driven set of titles, Life is Strange uses high-school students to tell a mature and resonant coming of age story that engages players’ curiosity as they unravel its deeply emotional story. It has a lot going for it as its world is very detailed and extremely realistic.

Infernax

Perhaps one of my favorites on the list, Infernax is a hidden gem in the Metroidvania genre. This retro-looking title is far more complex than its visuals may have you think, with important choices to make and a story with multiple endings, this warrants multiple playthroughs. Its combat and platforming are also extremely tight and intuitive which just make it great all-around. It’s also got great use of monstrous gore.

Borderlands Legendary Edition

Of course, Borderlands was going to make this list. It’s got gore, it’s got language, and it’s got fantastic gameplay that makes the entire experience feel so insane. This is a title to play if you just want to let loose and have fun. Though its comedy is more of the dark variety, the chaos that this game exudes will have you coming back for more.

Doom

Another gore-focused title, you really won’t find another title so deserving of its M rating. Blowing bits of demons away has never been so fun, especially when the metal music starts playing. If there was ever a game to cause Satanic Panic, this would be it.

Diablo II: Resurrected

A great new RPG title on the Nintendo Switch scene, Diablo II: Resurrected brings back the crowd-favorite Diablo II and gives it a fresh coat of paint both visually and mechanics-wise. Everything is done so wonderfully here and the game feels more fully realized than ever.

Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 is a must-have if you’re a horror or shooter fan. It has some gore and great gameplay that have made this game alone a mainstay for both the Resident Evil franchise as well as action games of its time. The graphics feel at home on the Switch and as they aren’t too modern plus you can take it with you everywhere.

L.A. Noire

A severely underrated title, L.A. Noire is a testament to what Rockstar games are able to achieve narratively. With an old Hollywood backdrop, this title fully engrosses the sights and sounds of the golden age of that city while contrasting it with the crime that riddled the streets at night. It’s a genre-bending title that never goes too far in any one direction, making it a great game that every gamer should give a try.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

There really isn’t another game that has done what Skyrim has. It’s a title that’s lived way longer than most people could have conceived, though for good reason. Skyrim is an extremely fun RPG with quite possibly the best story and world that Bethesda has ever delivered. Though the memes about its longevity are funny, this game really never gets old.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Probably the only other title that could defend itself against the likes of Skyrim, Wild Hunt is another title that just seeps itself in rich lore and a world worth exploring over and over. This title has near-endless hours worth of gameplay even past the ending of the mainline story. It’s also an extremely mature game at its core with stories that don’t shy away from being raw.

That’s our list of the top 10 best M-rated Nintendo Switch games. We made sure to include something for everyone as the eShop can be a bit hard to parse between some of the shovelware throughout it. There are sure to be other great M-rated games in the future, but these are currently at the top of the list.
