Decisions in games that do have ramifications have always scared me. Should You Save or Kill Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

After traveling through several trials, you will eventually meet the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3. This encounter takes place in the later part of Act 2 and heavily involves Shadowheart, our companion. You will then teleport to another realm, which acts as a point of no return to face Balthazar. After defeating him, you will then be met with the decision we are tackling today. Should you save or kill Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3? Both decisions carry rewards and heavy consequences, especially regarding our relationship with Shadowheart. Let’s see what consequences come after each decision.

Save Nightsong

To save Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will have to perform a DC 21 Charisma Check, which is a very difficult thing to do. Select the “[Persuasion] Don’t do it, Shadowheart. Don’t kill her – you’ll regret it” dialogue choice to attempt this. Be sure to save and reload your file until you land it. This Charisma Check is you attempting to convince Shadowheart not to kill Nightsong. If you are successful, the Nightsong will reveal herself as one of Selune’s daughters, an Aasimar, and the following things will happen:

  • Rewards: Moonlight Galive, Selune’s Spear of Night.
  • Deaths: Ketheric Thorm.
  • Shadowheart: Thanks for showing your support for Shadowheart, your romance is advanced.

Kill Nightsong

To kill the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3, select the “Kill her. Let’s finish this ritual” dialogue when prompted.. by stabbing her with the Spear of Night. She will then be worthy of Shar’s blessing. The following things will happen:

  • Rewards: Shar’s Spear of Evening.
  • Deaths: Isobel, Jaheira, Dammon, Art Cullagh.
  • Shadowheart: Shadowheart will state there will be no room for love except for the connection she has with her deity. You can still try to follow up on the romance, but things get more complicated throughout the rest of your Baldur’s Gate 3 adventure.

The correct choice, or at least the one that brings more benefits is to save the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3. This will allow you to further romance Shadowheart, spare the lives of other NPCs, as well as receiving two weapons instead of one. Go ahead and save your game and keep trying to roll a 21, you will eventually convince Shadowheart to save the Nightsong. Hopefully, it doesn’t take too many tries.
