Resident Evil 4 Remake: Is It Worth Giving Ashley Yellow Herbs? Answered

What are you, yellow?

Resident Evil 4 Remake faithfully brings the genre-changing game to modern audiences while still changes things up to keep it fresh. While some things have been refined, removed, or changed, it’s still, at its core, Resident Evil 4. That means many of the same strategies players employed in the original will still be worthwhile. Other strategies will need a second look.

What is a Yellow Herb

A yellow herb in Resident Evil 4 Remake increases the user’s health bar. For the sake of simplicity, let’s say Leon has 100 max hit points. With a yellow herb, he would go up to 115 max hit points. With the original, players could give it to either Leon or Ashley. This presented a choice of keeping the vulnerable Ashley alive longer or giving Leon a better chance to survive encounters.

Should You Give One to Ashley

One change to Resident Evil 4 Remake is that Ashley has more agency in the story. No longer can you hide her away in trash cans, she sticks to you like glue. You can, of course, leave her in a spot but that’s ill-advised as you may move too far away to rescue her if she finds herself in trouble. What this means is that she’ll be right in the thick of action. In the original, there were several locations that had you deal with hordes of enemies. Before you even realize it, Ashley might be downed.

Not to worry though. As mentioned before, the Remake has presented several changes. Unlike the original, Ashley does not have a health bar so there is no need to give her a yellow herb. Instead, after a number of hits she is downed and players need to pick her up before she gets hit again.
