Pokémon UNITE – Pokémon stats explained

Pokémon UNITE – Pokémon stats list and breakdown

How exactly do the individual Pokémon stats work in Pokémon UNITE? Let's take a look and what Offense, Endurance, Mobility, Scoring, and Support really mean.

I didn’t really understand how RPGs worked when I was a kid, so stats were nothing but jargon to me. That’s why none of my Pokémon in Red and Blue knew any stat-affecting moves; I thought they were worthless. Of course, stats couldn’t be more important, even in a non-RPG game like Pokémon UNITE. Here’s an explanation of how the stats in Pokémon UNITE work.

Let’s clarify something here: there are actually two sets of stats for every Pokémon: the stars you see on the select screen, and the actual numbers working in the background. I’ll explain these separately for clarity’s sake.

Pokémon UNITE Stats Explained

Each Pokémon has different strengths and weaknesses, which are signified by star ratings. The more stars the better, with a five-star being the maximum. Pokémon each have varying individual star ratings, but then there are also raw stats to consider. Here’s the difference.

Star Ratings

First, the stars represent broad strokes of a Pokémon’s abilities in the field, rather than hard numbers. These star ratings are a cumulation of multiple factors. Here’s what each refers to:

  • Offense: A Pokémon’s ability to deal damage, determined by its Attack and Special Attack stats.
  • Endurance: A Pokémon’s ability to receive damage without being knocked out, determined by Defense and base HP stats.
  • Mobility: How quickly a Pokémon can get around the field, either manually with its Speed stat or with its Moves.
  • Scoring: How proficient a Pokémon is at scoring goals, again determined by how quickly they get around, as well as how well they can defend themselves in enemy territory.
  • Support: A Pokémon’s capacity for healing and defending teammates, as well as hindering opponents without directly attacking them.

Raw Stats

So that’s the ratings, now how about the raw stats? A Pokémon’s actual abilities are determined by seven hard numerical stats that gradually increase as they level up in a match. Those stats are:

  • Attack: How much damage a Pokémon does with physical attacks and moves, like bites, kicks, punches, etc. All standard attacks, regardless of Pokémon specification, are affected by this, while Moves are only affected by it if they’re physical in nature.
  • Special Attack: How much damage a Pokémon does with non-physical attacks like projectiles and elemental damage. Applies to the Moves of Pokémon specified as “Special.”
  • Defense: How much a Pokémon resists incoming damage. Any physical damage a Pokémon receives is proportionally reduced based on this stat.
  • Special Defense: How much a Pokémon resists incoming Special Attack damage. Same as defense, but applied only to Special Attacks.
  • Critical Rate and Critical Damage: The likelihood of a Pokémon landing a critical hit when attacking, and how much more damage a critical hit inflicts when it lands.
  • Movement Speed: How quickly a Pokémon moves, either on its own or with the aid (or hindrance) of a Speed Flux zone.

As you can imagine, some Pokémon are far better at attacking or defending than others. You can check out our Pokémon UNITE tier list for our rankings.
