It’s always kind of strange when Pokémon go outside their lane as turned-based combatants into other genres of game. Pokkén Tournament, for example, had multiple Pokémon you probably wouldn’t expect to be in a fighting game. Pokémon UNITE is much the same way, though with a much broader net; which Pokémon would be best suited as MOBA characters? Any of them, apparently. So, what are the Pokémon UNITE playable characters?
What are the Pokémon UNITE Playable Characters
When Pokémon UNITE launches on the Nintendo Switch in July, it’ll have a starting roster made up of Pokémon seen in the initial reveal and beta stages, as well as a few new additions. So, far there are 19 Pokémon that have been confirmed to be available as soon as the game launches, and they are as follows:
- Pikachu
- Charizard
- Snorlax
- Crustle
- Greninja
- Eldegoss
- Talonflame
- Lucario
- Venusaur
- Mr. Mime
- Slowbro
- Absol
- Machamp
- Wigglytuff
- Alolan Ninetales
- Cramorant
- Gengar
- Garchomp
- Cinderace
In addition to these 19 Pokémon, the official Pokémon UNITE Twitter has confirmed that additional Pokémon will be gradually added to the game post launch, with the first two to come at an unspecified point in the future being Blastoise and Gardevoir.
Following the game’s Switch launch in July, it’ll also launch on mobile platforms some time in September, where the entire available roster will also be playable. Some multi-stage Pokémon, such as Charizard and Machamp, will also be playable in their pre-evolved forms, gradually reaching their full potential as you play with them. All characters will also have various skins and costumes that can be purchased with in-game currency.
The developers haven’t yet clarified if all characters will be available at all times, or if there will be a rotating schedule of free characters, much like League of Legends.
